The Rev. Frank Dukes was the recipient of the 2018 Mountaintop Award for his efforts in leading the Birmingham Selective Buying Campaign of 1962, while working as director of alumni affairs and public relations at Miles College, his alma mater. Throughout his adult life, Rev. Wendell Paris, Sr. has been involved in a leadership capacity in a variety of organizations that promote civil rights and economic development designed to sustain communities that are typically comprised of lower-income minorities. Isabel Rubio serves as executive director of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!), a nonprofit organization that facilitates the social, civic and economic integration of Hispanic individuals and families through its educational, leadership-development programs. “Songs Inside The Box,” the cigar box guitar documentary was shown as a part of the 2017 New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival. The three-day event began on Thursday, January 19th with a special New Orleans premiere screening of the Max Shores documentary, preceded by an informative historical introduction and performance on vintage instruments by musician/folklorist Shane Speal, who is featured in the film.SHOW ME NOW
