Joe Fiore’s Southern Keystone Railroad is one of the largest model railroad collections in the world. Other collections this large have been built by groups of collectors but all of the work here was done by Joe. His collection began when his father gave him a model train set when he was two and he’s been adding to it ever since.
Earl “Guitar” Williams is a blues man. Williams learned to play guitar as a youngster, hanging out at Gip’s Place, a juke joint in Bessemer, Alabama. He has played in singer Johnnie Taylor’s band and managed the band backing singer Benny Latimore. He also styled their hair. He performs in the Birmingham area and operates the Intensive Care Hair Salon in Bessemer.
A National Historic Landmark, Gaineswood was built by Nathan Bryan Whitfield. A cotton planter and Renaissance man of his time, Whitfield moved from North Carolina to Marengo County in 1834. The house and grounds are currently operated by the Alabama Historical Commission as a historic house museum.
