A National Historic Landmark, Gaineswood was built by Nathan Bryan Whitfield. A cotton planter and Renaissance man of his time, Whitfield moved from North Carolina to Marengo County in 1834. The house and grounds are currently operated by the Alabama Historical Commission as a historic house museum.SHOW ME NOW

The Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard is located in Colbert County in northwest Alabama. The location had been a hunting camp for coon hunters. Key Underwood buried his beloved dog Troop there in 1937. Other hunters started doing the same when their favorite coon dogs died. SHOW ME NOW

The University of Alabama Center for Public Television is collecting stories from local athletes and sports fans in cities across Alabama for a traveling Smithsonian exhibition. Participants share their stories in a recording booth known as The Box.Once the stories are recorded, they will become part of “Hometown Teams,” a Smithsonian Museum on Main Street traveling exhibition.SHOW ME NOW
