Kerry Kennedy is an artist in residence at the Kentuck Art Center in Northport, Alabama and her studio operates under the name Fire Horse Pottery. Kerry and her husband participate in the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international organization dedicated to re-creating the arts of pre-17th-century Europe. She specializes in medieval and renaissance reproductions.

Raised in Bibb County, Alabama, Oakley worked in the family business, the Centreville Press, a weekly, from the time he was a boy, at first sweeping the floors and delivering the papers. In 1984, Oakley sold the paper, intending to retire, but was called almost immediately by UA Dean Ed Mullins to teach journalism.

Each morning he was eager to get to his keyboard and dive in. - [Sela Ward - Communication Hall of Fame](https://maxshores.com/sela-ward-ua-communication-hall-of-fame-2014/) - University of Alabama Communications and Information Sciences Hall of Fame – Sela Ward has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe award for “Best Actress in a Primetime Series.” She also founded Hope Village for Children, an alternative to the traditional foster-home system, in her hometown of Meridian, Mississippi.
- [Stan Siegal - Communication Hall of Fame](https://maxshores.com/stan-siegal-ua-communication-hall-of-fame-2014/) - During his broadcast career, Stan Siegal moved up from staff announcer all the way to group manager and general manager. After doing commentary for Alabama basketball and working in sales, Siegal joined Imes Communications as vice president and general manager of WBOY TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Siegal also served as general manager of KDBC from 1991 until his retirement in 1995.
- [Shelton Prince - Communication Hall of Fame](https://maxshores.com/shelton-prince-ua-communication-hall-of-fame-2014/) - H. Shelton Prince Jr. began his newspaper career at the Cedartown (Ga.) Standard in 1956. He spent time in Galveston and Laredo, Texas, in Jasper and Selma and was publisher of the Brownwood (Texas) Bulletin at the time of his death in 1997. Prince was a senior vice president, group manager and president of the Southwest Management Group of Tuscaloosa-based Boone Newspapers Inc.
- [Gilbert Johnston - Communication Hall of Fame](https://maxshores.com/gilbert-johnston-ua-communication-hall-of-fame-2014/) - Gilbert E. “Gibby” Johnston enjoyed a prominent career in law, becoming one of the best-known First Amendment lawyers in Alabama. In 1974 Johnston joined the Birmingham law firm Johnston, Barton, Proctor, Swedlaw & Naff, where he worked with colleagues to establish numerous favorable precedents in the law pertaining to libel and privacy defense, access to public meetings and records and the reporter’s privilege.
- [Bill Bolen - Communication Hall of Fame](https://maxshores.com/bill-bolen-ua-communication-hall-of-fame-2014/) - William O. “Bill” Bolen spent more than 50 years as an anchor for WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham. Throughout his career, Bolen was witness to many major events, reporting from the front line of the Selma March in 1965 and interviewing John Glenn before his final flight into space in 1998, just to name two. He also represented the station in volunteer capacities.

- [The Coon Dog Cemetery](https://maxshores.com/the-coon-dog-cemetery/) - The Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard is located in Colbert County in northwest Alabama. The location had been a hunting camp for coon hunters. Key Underwood buried his beloved dog Troop there in 1937. Other hunters started doing the same when their favorite coon dogs died.
- [Historic Gaineswood](https://maxshores.com/historic-gaineswood-mansion-in-demopolis-al/) - A National Historic Landmark, Gaineswood was built by Nathan Bryan Whitfield. A cotton planter and Renaissance man of his time, Whitfield moved from North Carolina to Marengo County in 1834. The house and grounds are currently operated by the Alabama Historical Commission as a historic house museum.
- [Across Alabama’s Black Belt on US Highway 80](https://maxshores.com/1999-documentary-traces-alabamas-black-belt-history/) - Tour mansions where the slave owners are glorified and follow with reverence the route of the Selma to Montgomery march which led to the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The strip of black prairie land that crosses central Alabama is known as the Black Belt and Highway 80 runs through it. This land was the birthplace of the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement.
